After coming out of hiding in the Pacific Northwest two years ago with a breakout part in Lukas Huffman’s ir77 ; young Austin Smith came out swinging in 2008 with an amazing, and well deserved ender part in the Mack Dawg People movie, We’re People Too. Austin then went on to win both Men’s Rookie of the Year and Men’s Video Part of the Year at the 9th annual Transworld SNOWboarding Rider’s Poll Awards in Las Vegas, as well as being dubbed the 2008 Rookie of the Year in Snowboarder Magazine. Austin hit number one with a bullet, and now everyone wants a piece of the kid. It can be easy to get burnt out coming up that fast, but he’s his parents raised him right and he’s got a good head on his shoulders. Austin’s got his priorities straight and he’s focused on the right stuff—filming the best video part he can, and more importantly having fun snowboarding, regardless of how many people are watching or how many cameras are out.
